Munster

DISCOVER

the Munster valley

Colmar is an excellent base for exploring the Alsace wine region, which is famous for its white wines.

As well as delicious Rieslings, you'll also find Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris wines, Pinot Noir rosés and a local sparkling wine called Crémant d'Alsace.

The nearest town to Colmar is Eguisheim, only 7 km away by bike, and renowned for its beauty and wine.

There are plenty of wine bars and boutiques in Colmar where you can sample the region's wines, but if you want to find out more, you can also take the Alsace Wine Route.

The entire route covers more than 170 km and includes hundreds of vineyards and wine producers for you to visit.

For the more adventurous, you can even try a Segway tour of the vineyards!

LIVE THE EXPERIENCE

Farm inns

The farm inns of the Munster valley and the Vosges peaks have always welcomed hikers for a meal or even for the night. Today they still offer the "marcaire " meal : generally composed of pie and salad, the famous Roïgabrageldi and of course Munster cheese or the fresh cheese of the day washed down with Kirsch brandy.

These Alsace farm inns have woven the Cheese Route which leads from farm to farm, on foot, by car or on donkey back.

If you want to explore the Vosges peaks, you can choose one of the hikes leading to these farm inns according to your wishes.

And if you are just a foodie, head straight there at noon for a generous, family-style meal.

ADMIRE

Green Lake

Lac Vert is located in the Munster Valley, at an altitude of 1053 meters.

It owes its name to the reflection of the fir trees that surround it and to an algae that proliferates from the end of June to the end of July.
Sometimes, on Sunday mornings, you can hear the sound of alphorns, adding to the magic of the place. The lake is easy to access, you can park your car nearby (access by the Munster road to the Schlucht pass and forest road from kilometer 12).
Suggested itinerary: Lac Vert and Lac du Forlet via the ridges (2 hours).

SHARE

a unique moment with a Greeter

The term Greeter means “host” or “welcoming committee” in English.

Munster is the first commune in France to have set up this unique system allowing tourists to visit and discover a place through the story of a local resident.

Only about thirty cities in the world are now members of the IGA, the international greeters network.

Don't miss the opportunity to discover Munster through this unique experience.
