ESCAPE

Around Sewen

Sewen is the last commune in the Doller Valley, which has its source at La Fennemat. The Alsatian village is located at the foot of the Ballon d'Alsace, in the Vosges mountains, in an exceptional and preserved environment. The nearest town is Masevaux, 10 km away.

Legend has it that the village of Sewen was founded in the 5th century by Christians who were being chased by the Huns. This village, located at the bottom of the Doller Valley, was very early on used as a refuge.

In the Middle Ages, when the Abbey of Masevaux exercised religious and secular power, the upper Doller valley was formed of a single parish: Sewen; to which all the other villages were attached.
